Our first story comes from the daunting world of mountaineering! The reason why this story caught my eye is because there are very few first ascents left in the world today but David Gottlieb and Joe Puryea have pulled it off for a third time. Not only is this their third major ascent, this is their third major first ascent in a span of 18 months starting with Kang Nachugo in October of 2008, Jobo Rinjang last spring, and finishing with Takargo in Rolwaling Himal on March 12. All we can say is that these two are a pair to keep your eyes on. A link to the story that includes pictures taken by the climbers and their route can be found here.
Our second story comes from the far away land of Indonesia! Pierrick Gosselin of the Internation Canoe Federation held a canoe slalom training camp on the Palayangan River from March 1st to March 10th. There were about 23 participants all coming from different canoeing backgrounds but few to none with slalom experience. The great thing about this story is that the I.C.F. went out of its way to donate the boats necessary and the time of Mr. Gosselin to put on this training camp to help develop Canoeing as a sport. And the final story of the day comes out of Arcata, California where Kokatat has been awarded the 2010 Green Business of the year award by the Chamber of Commerce. We LOVE to see the businesses that we carry do great things for the environment and get recognized for it! And to top it all off Steve O'Meara, founder of Kokatat, was honored as the Business Man of the Year! Links to this story can be found here.
