. Just picture it: paddling out at sunrise and soaking up the sights of the ocean, the experience and speed of catching the perfect wave, and the calmness and serenity of nothing but you and the sea.
While it no secret that surfing is one of the most enjoyable water sports for people of all shapes and sizes, many people often overlook just how beneficial it can be to your health. In fact, it would be difficult to try and come up with a better (and more enjoyable) cross-training exercise for athletes from beginners to experienced. This is because surfing is a great mix of balance training, swimming and cardio--not to mention that added enjoyment and thrill that comes with this classic activity.

this summer, you must first understand the safety aspects that come with this complicated sport, as well as the basic steps of how to get started. Here is our advice for every person who just getting started with surfing:
Prepare Yourself Ahead of Time
Before you get started with surfing, it is first important to note that there are a lot of dangers involved. The fact of the matter is that you are embarking on a very strenuous activity out in the middle of the sea, which on it's on is a very unpredictable place. You should always make sure that you have an instructor or knowledgeable surfer around when you are first getting started for obvious safety reasons. Also be sure to take note of the local conditions outside and take some time to warm up beforehand.
Find The Right Board For You
When it comes to choosing the perfect surfboard
, many different surfers will have their own opinions and biases about what qualities make up the perfect board. However, for beginners, you should make sure to have a board that is stable in the water, light and easy to paddle on, and that is soft so that you do not hurt yourself of those around you. In most cases, the longer and wider the surfboard is, the easier things will be for first time riders.
Practice The Basic Steps of Surfing
There are three basic steps that you should practice before your finally get in the water and start surfing:
1. Determine your foot stance: The best way to do this is to lay down on your board and pretending like you are jumping up to catch a wave. Which food lands forward when you do this? If your left foot is in front, you are a regular. However, if your right foot is forward, you are a goofy footer.
2. Pop Up: In order to stand up correctly, you should be gripping the outside edges of your surfboard with both of your hands at chest level. Next, jump up with your front food about where your chest was, with your back foot on the tail of the board.
3. Repeat until you feel comfortable with the movements.
Get In The Water
When you finally feel like you have gotten the hang of the movements and you are comfortable with the board, it is time to get in the water. Be sure to first attach your leash
to your back foot, then wade in to knee/waist deep water. Next, jump on your board and begin paddling out into the water. Once you are out in the waves, wait until you feel the wave "catch you"?you will feel the wave begin to push your board forward?and then stand up just as you practiced! Once you're standing, ride the wave in. Next it's time to do it all over again.
