When you're trying to lose weight, how often should you weigh yourself?

It is no secret that weight loss is a challenge that millions of people around the world face day after day-- Dieting to become more fit and lean, exercising to tone the body and increase strength, or maintaining healthy lifestyle habits simply to feel better. Whether you are doing it for health reasons, you simply want to feel more comfortable in your own skin, or you're looking for any excuse to get outside and work out in the gorgeous spring weather, there are many different motivators and reasons that go into shedding pounds.

However, if you are someone who struggles with your weight and appearance, getting on the scale to see how much weight you have lost can be a very anxious, difficult experience. For someone who has been jogging outside every morning, working out non-stop and eating healthy, a scale that shows no weight loss can be very frustrating. Or, even if you are not on a diet and exercise plan, a sudden increase from the scale can prompt rigorous lifestyle changes.

Some people are so obsessive about their weight loss numbers going up and down that they even weigh themselves multiple times a day. However, this kind of infatuation with numbers can end up doing more harm than good when it comes to our weight loss goals. Not only can it affect your mood and motivation towards working out, but many people will throw in the towel if they do not see the results that they want echoed in their scale.

It is important to know that many different factors have an influence over our daily weight. Here are just a few reasons why you should ditch the daily weigh-ins, ease off of the scale and simply enjoy your outdoor workouts:

Our Weight Is Constantly Changing
Your weight can vary from day to day, and even hour to hour, for many different reasons. For instance, when you head outside to exercise, you are building up your muscles and, as they always say, muscle weighs more than fat in the long run. There are also many different lifestyle factors that can have an influence over your weight, such as your hydration levels, your digestive system, and more.

A Number Doesn't Mean You're Unhealthy
While your weight can be a good determining factor in how fit you are, it does not tell you everything that you need to know when it comes to body health. Your body fat percentage is much more accurate than your weight when it comes to how much fat is in your body. There are many different programs for measuring body fat, including scales that will track your inches at the same time you track your weight.

There Are Many Other Reasons To Lose Weight
While losing weight is a great reason to start working out and eating healthy, it should not be your only goal. The change towards a healthier life can also result in a reduced risk of disease, feelings of happiness and contentment, living longer and feeling better about yourself. Plus, there is the added bonus of getting outside and connecting with nature whenever you work out outside.

If you are someone who enjoys tracking your weight loss and measuring the results of your diet and exercise plan, be sure to keep your weigh-ins to a minimum of once a week. Knowing your weight loss number is a powerful tool on the road to being healthy, however your attitude and motivation will be the main factors that keep you going.
