A Benefit for the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park

COURSE:  The beautiful trails of Big Foot Beach State Park.

REGISTRATION:  Forms: http://www.clearwateroutdoor.com/turkeytrot.pdf.  Race day registration at park from 8:30-10:00am. Pre-registration participants may pick up race bags at Clear Water Outdoor from 5 - 8pm on Friday, November 19 or at the race. All proceeds of the race will support Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park.

AWARDS WILL BE PRESENTED FOLLOWING THE 10k: Turkeys will be awarded to the first male and female finisher in the 5K & 10K.  Medals will be awarded to the first male and female finishers in each age category.  Age Groups: 18 & Under, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & Over

RAFFLE: 5K & 10K Participants will receive one raffle ticket with race entry. Tickets will be available to purchase: 5 for $20 or $5 each. Winning tickets will be announced with a live drawing during the awards: winners must be present to claim prize. Raffle prizes to include items from CW-X, Sugoi, Brooks, Patagonia, Native Eyewear, Sierra Designs, Chaco, Horny Toad, Clear Water Outdoor Gift Certificates, and much more!

We’ve been thinking about this for some time now and its finally hit the calendar:

 Friday, October 10 we’ll be paddling over to Big Foot Beach State Park for a camping overnight and you are all invited!

 The plan is to meet at the store at 6:00pm and paddle over to the park where we’ll meet Dave with the boat trailer and we’ll head over to the campground to set up tents, have dinner and sit around the campfire.  Saturday we’ll rise for breakfast and break camp and then paddle over to Lake Geneva beach, where we’ll leave our boats for the Oktoberfest Beach Boat Demo (which begins at 11am).  Dave will drive the sag wagon or if you want extra credit, you can practice packing your own boat and carry your own gear.

We’ll split the cost of the campground and food.

Would anyone like to join us?  Please let us know if you are interested!  The more the merrier.  We would love to make this happen! 

Tuesday, October 14, join us for a Full Moon Paddle on Geneva Lake. We’ll leave the store around 6pm for this three hour paddle. Bring headlamps/flashlights/glowsticks and be sure to dress for immersion. Please call the store to sign up for this event, as space is limited.

We’re continuing our Sunday morning 8am Paddles on Lake Geneva throughout October.  Please call the store if you plan to attend.  We are looking forward to another great month of paddling!

Just a reminder about this Tuesday’s slideshow at Clear Water Outdoor.  The show starts at 7:00pm and its a great presentation of Sam Crowley’s circumnavigation of Ireland in a sea kayak.  Come get inspired and share a pint of Guiness with your fellow club paddlers and favorite Clear Water Outdoor employees.  We’re not quite wrapping up the season yet, but this is our chance to reminisce about our great summer on the water and talk about our big plans for next season.  Bring a friend and meet us in the Gearage at Clear Water for a fun filled evening.  Hope to see you then!

You can expect great food, cold beer and island drinks from your host for the evening, Hemingway’s South of Disorder restaurant and bar – come early for dinner and stay for the show. Music will be provided by Local Favorite, a Chicago-area band that’s “the closest thing to a Nashville bar band that you’ll find this side of the Mason-Dixon line.” You’ll know every song, spend the night on the dance floor, and will leave wanting more.

The band starts at 9 p.m.

Join us Tuesday night, September 30th at 7:00pm for a fun night of socializing and inspiring tales.  Sam Crowley of Sea Kayak Specialist in Marquette, MI, will be joining us for a slideshow presentation of his circumnavigation of Ireland in a kayak.

During the summer of 2007 in Ireland, an unusual weather pattern created the worse summer since records were kept in the mid 1800s. Despite the rain and strong unstable winds, Sam Crowley circumnavigated Ireland by traveling over 1000 miles in 82 days. This is his tale of the people met along the way and places visited while paddling in some of the most challenging conditions found in the world. Circumnavigating Ireland is one of the classic expeditions for a sea kayaker.

Everyone is invited to this final wrap up of the paddling season.  Hope you can join us!

We’re still paddling and we want you to join us! Please call the store to sign up and reserve a boat. If you have your own boat, the rules have changed slightly. We can no longer use our launch pass for boats that do not belong to the store. So please bring $6 along or launch at a free launch site and we’ll meet you on the water (Big Foot Beach State Park is a great launch, check out the Blog entry for more details). Hope we all can get in some great paddling this month!
