BIG FOOT BEACH STATE PARK FAQs

Friday, July 25th, 2008

We love our State Park and want to share it with you!  Many of our events and classes are held at Big Foot Beach State Park and we want you to know what to expect when you get there.  The following is a list of frequently asked question about the park.  Hope you find it useful!

Do I need a state park sticker to park at Big Foot Beach State Park for a class or event?  YES!  We support our local state park and want you to, too (check out http://www.friendsofbfbsp.org/).  You may purchase a daily use pass or an annual sticker:

2008 sticker fees

Sticker fees Annual Half price* Daily One-hour
WI resident $25 $12.50 $7 $5
WI resident age 65 and older $10 N/A $3 N/A
Non-resident $35 $17.50 $10 $5
Bus, Wisconsin     $10
Bus, out of state     $14

Where do we meet for class?  The park entrance is located at 1550 South Lakeshore Dr, 2 miles south of the city of Lake Geneva.  Once you turn into the entrance, you’ll see us on the grass to the left, between the road and the lagoon.

Where do I park?  Turn into the entrance and continue to the ranger station straight ahead.  Park in the first lot on the right.  If there is no ranger on duty, you can use the self-pay station to your right to pay for your sticker.

How can I become a member of the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park?  Fill out a membership form on our website:  www.clearwateroutdoor.com/membership.shtml.

Thank you everyone for supporting our local state park.  We’re lucky to have such an outstanding park right here in our backyard and we’re thrilled to share it with all of you.  Any other info I missed?

Ladies Lulu Lake Shout-Outs

August 17, 2008

Thank you all for joining us for the super fun outing on Lulu Lake.  We got some seriously fun female energy together and paddled and laughed and played and paddled some more while we enjoyed the amazing scenery of Lulu Lake.  It was a perfect Sunday by my standards and I’m just grateful to have shared it with such wonderful people.  Thank you for such an enjoyable day.  We’ll do it again.  Hope you can join us:  Friday Aug 1 for everyone & Sunday Aug 17 ladies only.

Just need to share some gratitude with y’all:  Thank you Dave for being our “boat boy” and taking us on the scenic route.  We appreciate you giving us your morning and for spying from afar.  Thank you Lisa for bringing your soaker and keeping us all cooled off as the day warmed up.  It wouldn’t have been the same without the Hummer and your hilarious sense of humor.  Thank you.  Joanne summed it up best when she said she got everything she ever wanted at Lulu.  So glad that you finally got your true kayak experience!  Araceli, next time, we’ll do a better job of securing digits for you.  It’s a promise.  And Eva, we’ll give you and your bow a bit more privacy.  Thanks for that beautiful moment, though.  Jill, thank you for joining and helping us out.  Congrats Cow Girl!  It was a day of firsts for lots of us!  Marsha, I hope we got you enough sun to last you the next five days.  I think my favorite line of the day was yours about our canoeists.  Still laughing…..And Rebecca, we all thank you for letting us in on the “true” nanny diaries.  It was a pleasure to have you join us.  And I’m glad I got to give you all a compass lesson.  I’m still working through that one, but I’m grateful to have shared my first time with all of you.

Don’t forget the pinky swear.

Until next time,

Laura

Delavan Adventure Race Results

Monday, June 9th, 2008

Way to go Paddlers!  Clear Water Outdoor and Friends had a great day at the Delavan Adventure Race on Saturday, June 7.  Conditions were brutal, but ideal, for winner Bruce Reek.  For all of you who don’t know Bruce, he’s the paddler you see on Lake Geneva on the windiest of days surfing waves with his Yellow Solstice.  He came in first in the 12 mile paddle and finished with a strong 5K.  Mark Hickey was just 27 seconds behind and Erich Schloemer grabbed third in his rowing scull, “not the most stable boat in conditions!”.  Lynn Kizicki placed first for the ladies and Laura Hering came in second, crossing the finish line with Andy Kerwin - Thanks Andy!

It was a really fun day on the water.  Great to be out there with fellow paddlers and friends.  The Adventure continued after the boats were loaded up and we took turns getting stuck in the mud.  Thanks to Bruce, he still had the energy left to pull us out and we experienced a moment of gratitude for the Hummer.
